The Crushing and Pressing

“In the crushing, in the pressing...

You are making new wine...” (Hillsong United)

I mentioned this song before, but it’s worth mentioning again. At least for my own sake.

When life seems crushing, and pressing... when the Hand of God seems to squeeze every last drop out of you... remember wine.

Remember, grapes that stay grapes will eventually rot and wither away... but grapes that are pressed and crushed and squeezed... grapes that sit for weeks or months, fermenting.... grapes that are clarified and purified... they become something new, something more. They become wine. They are preserved for aging. They are meant to last. They satisfy the thirsty and lift the weary. They become a celebratory toast.

Likewise, a soul that is pressed and crushed in the difficulties of God’s Will... souls that sit for weeks or months or years fermenting in total surrender and trust... souls that are purified by trials... they eventually become something new, something more. They become saints, preserved for the kingdom, resistant to aging... lasting for eternity. They will satisfy the thirsty and lift the weary. They will be for the world a symbol of victory... like a celebratory toast.

I’m trying to remember this today, in the crushing. I’ve got this song on repeat. I’ve got my heart focused on wine. And I’m praying for you guys who are also being “pressed.”

God is good and always present. Cheers, friends.
