Battle Lines

The other day it seemed the sky spoke of something I was having a hard time putting into words. Something that has come up often in prayer. Something that, up until this point, was just a feeling inside of me.

Then.... that sky... that sky explained it perfectly. It was as if a line — a battle line — had been drawn in Heaven. And there was no more haze, no more obscurity. There was no more wondering where one begins and the other ends. Light and dark stood in obvious contrast—almost like a stand off.

That’s kind of how the world feels lately. The sides are so drastically different, so polarizing. They do not support the same things at all. One side supports the slaughter of unborn children, covers up the trafficking of other children, excuses violence in the streets, defends the loss of freedom, wants to defund police, encourages media bias, justifies the collapse of small business, rationalizes socialism, endorses American traitors, tries to open borders to terrorists, wages war against God, idolizes criminals, vandalizes memorials, conceals evil, and assaults good.

The other side supports unborn children, uncovers the trafficking of other children, condemns violence in the streets, defends our freedom, supports the police, encourages free speech in the media, strengthens small businesses, denounces socialism, endorses American heroes, protects our borders from terrorists, fights for God, punishes criminals, safeguards memorials, exposes evil, and seeks good. Some of you are gasping right now that I have said this. Some of you are looking furiously for that unfriend or block button. But hold on. I’m talking about policies here. I did not mention people... I did not mention politicians or citizens. Let’s take names out of it for a second. It is the POLICIES that are polarizing. It is the IDEOLOGIES that stand in stark contrast to each other.

And we the people (the politicians, citizens, whoever) have to choose which policies to align ourselves with and which ideologies we want to cover this land.

Remember, guys, “our struggle is not against flesh and blood (people), but...against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Eph. 6:12) This is not about which politician tweets what, or which news anchor says what, or which voter posts what. At the end of the day, this is about which “forces” control what. Things have reached a sort of fever pitch lately, and the “spiritual powers” on both sides have completely unveiled themselves. And actually, that’s a good thing, because it can help us see clearly and choose wisely. The problem is: do we “really” see? Many of us do not, I’m afraid. Many are not paying attention. And the Lord talked about this in the Gospels.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.” (Mt. 6:22)“If your eye is healthy” means “if you see clearly.” Unfortunately, nowadays, many do not see clearly. Many cannot identify the battle line or see the contrast.

Many turn a blind eye to dark evils like abortion, pedophilia, and Marxism... and shine a spotlight on things like mean tweets, crass comments, and false information. Some have even gone so far as to call the darkness light and the light darkness. They conceal these evils under guises like “healthcare for all” (abortion), “tolerance for all sexual orientations” (pedophilia), and “equal status for all” (socialism).Friends, the Lord spoke about this, too. “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness...” (Is. 5:20)I’m sorry, guys, but a great darkness has descended over this nation; a terrifying storm looms in the air. And many think we can just downplay it without any guilt or consequence. But we can’t.

We were commanded: “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” (Eph 5:11)We were warned: “cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.” (Rom. 13:12) Many think that if we justify the darkness it will somehow cease to be dark. But, friends, Jesus said that will only cause it to increase. “If then the light in you is darkness, how great the darkness will be!” (Mt. 6:23) Please, friends, look at this picture — I mean “really,” truly look at it — and then think about the two platforms in the upcoming election. Forget about memes and tweets for a minute, and think about the real issues that each side is advocating for. Which side of the battle line do these issues fall on?

Where in this picture do you see botched abortions, the selling of baby body parts, and the hiding of human trafficking? Where do you see Antifa, the absence of police, and a loss of law and order? Heaven has drawn a line, friends, and you must choose a side. You must cast a vote for the ideologies and spiritual powers that you want to cover our land in the future. And then you have to live with that decision.

This isn’t mere politics, like some of you are apt to think. This is a grave spiritual battle, and if you can’t see that, I’m scared for you. Behind the scenes, angels are battling demons. The Lord is trying to get our attention. Heaven is trying to awaken the bride of Christ.

Are you listening? Are you watching? Do you see the difference? Your choice and my choice will have lasting consequences, not just here in America, but in the world, and into eternity. The wrong choice will bring “a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! ...like has never been before, nor will be again after them through the years of all generations.” (Joel 2:2)

The right choice will bring Jesus. “Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.” (Is. 58:8)

He says, “And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.” (Is. 42:16) Friends, the choice is ours, as it has always been. And, yes, we still have the freedom to reject him like those before us did. “a light has come into the world, but people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.” (Jn. 3:19)

I pray this isn’t the case, though, come November. I pray the Bride of Christ awakens to her calling: “you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” (Eph 5:8) “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Pet 2:9)I pray God’s people will begin to “see” the battle around them and hear the voice of their Lord: “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Eph. 5:14)I pray we choose Him.
